During a recent visit to Jongno 2-ga to shop for our granddaughter's first birthday gift, my wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a proper meal. Searching for an elegant yet comfortable dining experience near Gwanghwamun, I discovered WOOHANA Jonggak, located directly in front of Jonggak Station at Starfield Avenue. The concept of Hanwoo omakase immediately caught my attention, and the fact that the entire restaurant operates with private rooms sealed the deal.

WOOHANA Jonggak is just a one-minute walk from Exit 1 of Jonggak Station. Located on the 2nd floor (Room 203) of Jongno 33 Tower Building 1, this Korean fine dining Seoul establishment is easily accessible from Gwanghwamun, City Hall, and the entire Jongno area. Even from Gwanghwamun Station, the restaurant is within comfortable walking distance, which explains its growing reputation as the go-to Korean restaurant near me for local office workers. Building parking is available, making it convenient for those arriving by car.

Opening hours are from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with a break time from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Dinner reservations are highly recommended. The phone number is 0507-1481-7561.

Upon arrival with our reservation, staff immediately escorted us to our private room. WOOHANA operates exclusively with private dining rooms, allowing guests to enjoy their meal without any concern for neighboring tables. Rooms can accommodate up to 20 people, making this Korean restaurant Jongno ideal for company dinners or family gatherings.

What particularly impressed me was the open kitchen design. Watching the transparent cooking process naturally instilled confidence in the food quality. The room itself featured warm lighting and understated interior design, creating an atmosphere perfect for special occasions. When staff lit candles on our table, the anniversary ambiance became even more pronounced.

We ordered Course B (90g) for two people. Our dedicated manager meticulously explained each ingredient that would be used and carefully checked for any dietary restrictions. The meal began with a sparkling wine welcome drink, followed by the proper course progression.

First Course - Chestnut Sweet Potato Porridge
Warm porridge garnished with truffle and chestnut chips arrived first. The smooth texture carried subtle sweetness from chestnut and sweet potato, gently opening the palate without any aggressive flavors. A perfectly appropriate opening dish.

Second Course - Four Bite-Sized Preparations
Beef tartare brioche, lobster, sea bream, and fried Hanwoo arrived on a single plate. Each offered distinct textures and flavors to enjoy one bite at a time. The beef tartare was fresh and tender, the lobster maintained its springy texture, the sea bream was delicate, and the fried Hanwoo was perfectly crispy—four experiences on one plate.

Third Course - Tuna and Uni
Tuna belly topped with pickled baby cabbage, yuzu, and uni. The buttery tuna complemented the creamy richness of uni and the bright acidity of yuzu. The crunchy pickled cabbage provided textural balance.

Fourth Course - Abalone Dish
Chewy abalone accompanied by braised radish and zucchini. The characteristic firm texture of abalone remained intact, while the gently braised radish supported the clean flavor of the shellfish.

Fifth Course - Grilled Tilefish
Tilefish grilled with shiso was delicate yet savory. The perfectly cooked fish was firm but tender, while the fragrant shiso eliminated any fishy notes and enhanced the overall flavor profile.

Sixth Course - Hanwoo Sukiyaki
Korean beef and cauliflower in sweet sukiyaki sauce. The savory beef aroma met sweet seasoning to create deep, layered flavors. Cauliflower cut through any richness beautifully.

Seventh Course - Beef Noodle Soup
Noodles with brisket and salted beef showcased Hanwoo in yet another format. The salty umami of the cured beef added depth to the broth, while the brisket remained chewy with intense beef flavor.

Eighth Course - Individual Charcoal Grill
Hanwoo striploin and grilled vegetables arrived with a personal charcoal brazier. Being able to grill each piece at our own pace was delightful. The sizzling striploin released savory aromas, and when cooked to medium, delivered tender texture and concentrated beef flavor.

Ninth Course - Traditional Korean Table
Hanwoo seaweed soup and three side dishes. The beef-enriched seaweed soup was both clean and deeply flavored, providing a warm conclusion to the savory courses.

Tenth Course - Dessert
Cream cheese ice cream and lime basil sorbet finished the meal. The cream cheese ice cream was smooth and rich, while the lime basil sorbet was refreshing with herbal notes that cleansed the palate completely.

Another significant advantage at WOOHANA is the free corkage policy. Guests can bring their favorite wines to enjoy with their meal, making it particularly popular among wine enthusiasts. For special occasions, the restaurant offers lettering services and complimentary Polaroid photography, making it even more suitable for celebrations.

The manager's service was equally impressive. Each course was accompanied by detailed explanations of ingredients and cooking methods, and the pacing was carefully calibrated to our dining speed. We could relax in our private room, conversing freely while savoring each course at leisure.

WOOHANA Jonggak impressed with its composition showcasing Hanwoo through multiple cooking techniques while incorporating an excellent range of seafood. We experienced Korean beef as tempura, sukiyaki, charcoal-grilled, in noodles, and in seaweed soup, while the seafood variety—lobster, sea bream, tuna, uni, abalone, and tilefish—ensured the meal never felt monotonous.

The one-minute accessibility from Jonggak Station, complete privacy with all private rooms, the trust inspired by the open kitchen, and the meticulous service all combined for a thoroughly satisfying dining experience. At 129,000 won per person, the price point may seem steep, but considering the composition of ten courses, the quality, and the ambiance, it represents excellent value.

I'm already considering WOOHANA as a venue for our granddaughter's first birthday family celebration. If you're searching for the best Korean restaurant Seoul has to offer, I confidently recommend WOOHANA Jonggak.

How to Make a Reservation
Advance reservations are strongly recommended, as all seating is in private rooms and the restaurant is highly popular. Weekend and dinner slots fill quickly. Call 0507-1481-7561 or book through Korean reservation platforms.

Getting There
Take Seoul Metro to Jonggak Station (Line 1), Exit 1. The restaurant is a one-minute walk at Jongno 33 Tower Building 1, 2nd floor, Room 203. From Gwanghwamun Station, it's approximately 7-8 minutes on foot. Taxis can easily reach the location by requesting "Jonggak Station Starfield Avenue."

Dining Etiquette
This is fine dining with omakase service, so the chef and manager guide the meal progression. Arrive on time for your reservation. The dress code is smart casual. Photography is welcome but be respectful of other diners' privacy. The free corkage policy is generous—bring wine if desired, but quality stemware is provided.

Korean BBQ Seoul vs. Hanwoo Omakase
Unlike typical Korean BBQ Seoul restaurants where you grill your own meat throughout, omakase means "I'll leave it to you"—the chef determines preparation methods. WOOHANA blends both: most courses arrive plated, but the eighth course includes personal charcoal grilling for an interactive element.
