Last week I wanted to treat a close friend to something special, so we booked WOOARA Gwanghwamun, a private room Korean restaurant in Gwanghwamun known for its exceptional Korean beef omakase. I'd been curious about Korean fine dining for a while, and WOOARA has built a reputation for its elevated courses combining Hanwoo and seafood. After experiencing it firsthand, I can say the food quality, ambiance, and service exceeded all expectations—this is easily one of the best options for anyone seeking a Korean beef omakase in Gwanghwamun or a private dining experience in Seoul.

There's no shortage of Korean beef restaurants around Gwanghwamun, but what drew me to WOOARA was its omakase-style approach. Instead of simply grilling meat, WOOARA offers a full Korean course menu featuring premium Hanwoo, fresh seafood, and seasonal ingredients served in progression. The fact that every seat is in a private room sealed the deal—it's perfect for intimate conversations without the distraction of a crowded dining room. Whether you're planning a business dinner in Gwanghwamun or an anniversary dinner, the privacy here is unmatched.

WOOARA Gwanghwamun is located on the B1 floor of The K Twin Towers at 50 Jongno 1-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul. It's incredibly convenient—less than a 10-minute walk from Gwanghwamun Station, Anguk Station, or Gyeongbokgung Station. I took exit 6 from Gwanghwamun Station and walked up Jongno Street until I spotted The K Twin Towers. Head down to the basement level and you'll find the entrance to WOOARA.

Parking is available from B3 of The K Twin Towers, and WOOARA validates for 2 hours free. After that, it's 1,000 KRW per 10 minutes. I used public transport, but if you're driving for a family dinner or group gathering, parking is hassle-free.

The moment I stepped inside, I was struck by the refined Korean interior design. WOOARA Gwanghwamun has 19 separate private rooms, each thoughtfully designed. A staff member escorted us to our reserved room, and I caught glimpses of other rooms along the corridor—they vary in size and layout, so you can choose based on your party size.

Our room was set for two and felt spacious without being cavernous. The design balanced muted tones with traditional Korean touches, creating an upscale yet comfortable atmosphere. The table setting was immaculate, and the room came equipped with a personal grill and a ventilation system that eliminated any lingering smoke or meat odors. This level of privacy and attention to detail makes WOOARA ideal for business dinners in Gwanghwamun, family gatherings, or even engagement dinners where you want uninterrupted conversation.

WOOARA offers separate lunch and dinner menus, with three dinner course options (A, B, and C). We chose the mid-tier Dinner B Course at 129,000 KRW per person. The course consists of about 10 dishes served sequentially, and our manager explained each dish—the ingredients, preparation methods, and flavor profiles—which added depth to the experience.

We started with chawanmushi, served in an adorable acorn-shaped bowl. The silky egg custard melted on my tongue, releasing the sweet umami of spot prawns and the chewy texture of ginkgo nuts. It was a gentle, elegant opener.

Next came four bite-sized dishes, each showcasing a different premium ingredient: scallop, Hanwoo tartare, Hanwoo tenderloin, and lobster. The scallop rested on crispy seaweed crackers and had a delicate, buttery flavor. The fried tenderloin was crisp outside and juicy inside, bursting with flavor. The tartare was served on bread for a savory, rich bite, and the lobster tucked into pastry with sauce was luxuriously smooth.

The tuna dish came with yuzu sauce, which cut through the richness of the fish beautifully. Pickled baby napa cabbage added a refreshing crunch—a perfect palate cleanser.

The sweet corn soup was one of the standout dishes. Made with Chodang corn, it had an intensely sweet, natural flavor elevated by a hint of truffle oil. Topped with caviar, spinach, and mushrooms, every spoonful offered layers of taste and texture. It was indulgent yet refined.

The abalone had been steamed for hours with radish and kelp. It was so tender it practically dissolved in my mouth, releasing deep umami flavors. Smoked clams and basil added aromatic complexity.

The tilefish was a visual masterpiece. The chef crisped the scales and poured warm broth over the fish tableside. We mixed it with green onion rice, and it was clean, savory, and utterly delicious—even I, someone who usually avoids fish, devoured the entire bowl.

The perilla oil capellini with octopus and Hanwoo featured thin noodles tossed with octopus, sea urchin, and Korean beef. The perilla oil was fragrant but not heavy, and aged kimchi added a tangy brightness. Despite being a noodle course, it felt light and left room for the main event.

Then came the highlight: Hanwoo grilled over a personal fire pit. We were served Hanwoo chuck flap, and our manager grilled it to perfection. The marbling was beautiful, the meat tender and flavorful, and it came with grilled vegetables, potatoes, and parsnips. This is Korean beef omakase at its finest.

The bansang (traditional Korean meal set) included Hanwoo seaweed soup, Icheon rice, and three side dishes. The soup was comforting and deeply flavored, and the rice and banchan were simple but perfect.

Finally, dessert was light and not overly sweet—an ideal conclusion to the course.

The service at WOOARA Gwanghwamun was exceptional. Our dedicated room manager explained every course and attended to every detail. When we mentioned it was a special occasion, they surprised us with complimentary sparkling wine. This kind of thoughtfulness is why WOOARA is a top choice for anniversary dinners in Gwanghwamun or important celebrations.
