I wanted to treat my mother to a special meal, so after searching for the perfect spot, I discovered WOOHANA Jonggak. As one of the best Korean restaurants in Seoul, this Hanwoo omakase destination offers an exceptional lunch course experience. My mother loves Korean beef, and this Korean fine dining Seoul venue completely exceeded our expectations with its meticulously prepared courses centered around premium Hanwoo, all served in completely private dining rooms.

Finding the right restaurant near Jonggak and Gwanghwamun for a special family meal can be surprisingly challenging. Too casual feels inadequate, while overly formal venues can feel intimidating. WOOHANA strikes the perfect balance with its Hanwoo omakase concept—special enough for memorable occasions yet comfortable enough for relaxed conversation. The fact that every single table is housed in a completely private room was the biggest draw for me. No need to worry about neighboring diners; we could focus entirely on each other and the outstanding food.

WOOHANA Jonggak is located on the second floor (Room 203) of Starfield Avenue Grand Seoul Tower 1, at 33 Jongno, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The location is incredibly convenient—just a two-minute walk from Jonggak Station Exit 1, and close enough to Gwanghwamun Station that you can easily walk from there as well. This makes it an ideal meeting point for anyone searching for a Korean restaurant near me in central Seoul.

If you're driving, you can use the underground parking garage at the Grand Seoul building. Free parking is provided for three hours on both weekdays and weekends, with additional parking benefits available on weekends and holidays when you visit shops within Starfield Avenue. For a restaurant located in the heart of downtown Seoul, having hassle-free parking is a major advantage.

From the entrance, WOOHANA exudes sophistication and elegance. Upon entering, you can see the open kitchen where the chefs meticulously prepare each dish—this transparency immediately builds trust. The kitchen's immaculate condition was particularly reassuring.

WOOHANA features 21 private rooms and can accommodate groups of up to 20 people. Our room had a modern yet serene aesthetic, and being completely separated from other diners allowed us to converse freely without any distractions. This setup makes it perfect for family gatherings, engagement dinners, business dinners, or company meetings.

These thoughtful touches make WOOHANA an excellent choice for celebrating special occasions.

WOOHANA offers various price points for both lunch and dinner service. Lunch courses range from Course A at 39,000 KRW to the Special Course at 99,000 KRW. Dinner courses run from 109,000 KRW to the Signature Course at 189,000 KRW. We chose Lunch Course C, which varies in price based on the Hanwoo portion size:

Initially, I worried that 80g might not be enough, but the accompanying dishes were so generous that even the base portion left us completely satisfied. Note that course menus require a minimum of two people to order.

Before the meal began, our server presented a wooden box containing all the ingredients that would be used in our course. When the lid was lifted, dry ice mist dramatically revealed fresh ingredients arranged inside: root vegetables, lobster, abalone, tilefish, sea bream, and at the center, truffle, caviar, and the star of the show—Hanwoo sirloin. The detailed explanation of each ingredient heightened our anticipation for what was to come.

Chestnut Sweet Potato Porridge

The first course was a silky chestnut sweet potato porridge topped with chestnut chips and freshly shaved truffle, finished with truffle oil. The nutty flavor paired beautifully with the subtle truffle aroma, while the crispy chestnut chips provided textural contrast that prevented the dish from feeling monotonous. It was an impressive way to begin the meal.

Four Bite-Sized Courses

Next came four exquisite amuse-bouche dishes, each plated like a work of art. The selection included sea bream tartlet with apple jelly, seaweed topped with greens and red shrimp and lobster, beef tartare on brioche, and truffle Hanwoo tempura. The Hanwoo tempura was particularly striking, served on a decorative wooden branch—interestingly, my mother's and my plates featured different branch shapes, which added a playful visual element.

The sea bream tartlet combined a crisp shell with delicate fish and refreshing apple jelly. The seaweed with shrimp and lobster offered a wonderful contrast between crunch and umami richness. The beef tartare on soft brioche was harmonious, and the Hanwoo tempura delivered a perfect textural contrast—crispy exterior with a tender, melt-in-your-mouth interior.

Main Hanwoo and Stone Pot Rice

The main course featured Hanwoo sirloin, grilled tableside to perfection with expert guidance on optimal doneness. With the first bite, the beef's natural juices flooded my palate, the meat yielding tenderly while releasing rich, savory flavors. The variety of accompanying sauces and vegetables kept each bite interesting from start to finish.

The stone pot rice was prepared with sea bream, with each grain glistening and infused with subtle seafood essence. Scraping up the crispy rice crust (nurungji) at the bottom revealed a wonderfully toasty, nutty flavor.

As one of the most popular Korean BBQ Seoul and Korean fine dining Seoul destinations, WOOHANA requires advance reservations. Weekend evenings and dinner slots fill up especially quickly, so I strongly recommend calling ahead. Business hours are 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM on weekdays and 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM on weekends, with a break time from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Last order is at 9:00 PM.

The free corkage policy means you can bring your own wine, and if you're celebrating an anniversary or special occasion, mention it when booking to arrange for the complimentary champagne and dessert lettering service.

WOOHANA Jonggak truly deserves its reputation as one of the best Korean restaurants in Seoul, especially for those seeking an authentic Hanwoo omakase experience. Everything impressed us: the pristine ingredients, meticulous preparation, completely private dining spaces, and attentive service. The lunch course pricing felt entirely reasonable for such a special dining experience, and my mother was absolutely delighted—so much so that I'm already planning our return visit. If you're looking for a top-tier Korean restaurant Seoul has to offer, particularly for Korean beef prepared with omakase-level precision near Jonggak, WOOHANA is an outstanding choice.
