Last week, a friend recommended I check out WOOARA Gwanghwamun while searching for Korean fine dining Seoul options in the Jongno area. I was looking for somewhere special to celebrate, and this Hanwoo omakase restaurant exceeded every expectation. Watching the chefs prepare each course in the open kitchen was a world apart from typical Korean BBQ restaurants. The entire experience felt refined and deliberate. Today I'm sharing my honest review of the Dinner B course at this exceptional Gwanghwamun Korean food destination.

WOOARA Gwanghwamun is located on the B1 floor of The K-Twin Tower, making it one of the most accessible Korean restaurants near Gyeongbokgung Palace. It's a seven-minute walk from Gwanghwamun Station and about ten minutes from Gyeongbokgung Station, so getting there by public transit is incredibly convenient. If you're driving, the building offers two hours of free parking on the B3 level. I arrived a bit early for my first dinner seating and was able to wait comfortably in the seating area by the entrance. I appreciated that the menu was displayed outside, allowing me to review the course composition before entering.

When I arrived for my reservation, the assigned manager greeted me personally and led me inside. The interior is organized around a pristine open kitchen, but what really caught my attention were the private rooms. Each room features sophisticated wood tones and ambient lighting that create an atmosphere perfect for important occasions like engagement dinners, business dinners, or anniversary celebrations. If you're searching for a Korean restaurant Gwanghwamun with private dining spaces, this is an excellent choice.

The table was thoughtfully equipped with bottled water, wet wipes, tissues, and even a wireless charger. A card with my manager's name sat on the table so I could easily call for assistance. Every detail reflected the level of service you'd expect from authentic Korean dining at its finest.

WOOARA Gwanghwamun offers both lunch and dinner courses, plus a few à la carte options to suit different preferences. We ordered the Dinner B course, and immediately after, the manager carefully confirmed any allergies or dietary restrictions. Moments later, they presented a large wooden box containing all the fresh ingredients for the evening—a presentation that felt like a performance in itself.

Inside the box were seasonal vegetables like sweet corn, mushrooms, and tomatoes, along with an impressive array of seafood including spot prawns, lobster, and tilefish. The star, of course, was the Korean beef striploin, marbled so beautifully it looked like a work of art. Caviar and truffle were available as add-ons for an extra charge. As an anniversary event perk, we received complimentary sparkling wine, which elevated the entire experience.

The meal began with chawanmushi, a Japanese-style savory egg custard. It contained spot prawns, ginkgo nuts, and okra, with a silky, pudding-like texture infused with deep seafood broth—a perfect palate opener.

Next came "Elegant" bite-sized appetizers, visually stunning from the first glance. Four items were artfully arranged on a single plate: beef tartare brioche, lobster pastry, tuna inari sushi, and fried Hanwoo tenderloin. The tartare was paired with pear for a sweet, fresh contrast. The lobster pastry had a crisp exterior with intense ocean flavors. The tuna inari was light and nutty, while the truffle-scented Hanwoo tenderloin practically melted in my mouth. This dish embodied everything special about Hanwoo omakase.

The striped jack course arrived with eggplant, chamnamul greens, kumquat, pear, and dill. I'm not usually a sashimi fan, but the bright sauce and chewy texture combined beautifully to refresh the palate.

Sweet corn soup came with truffle oil, abalone roe, spinach, and mushrooms. Mashing the corn kernels into the soup created a delightful sweetness with bursts of texture, while the truffle aroma added a luxurious finish.

The abalone dish was stunning to look at. Served with radish, kelp, basil, smoked shellfish, and soy sauce, the abalone maintained its signature firm-yet-tender bite. Even though I typically avoid abalone, I found this preparation absolutely delicious.

Grilled tilefish was served with mullet roe and chamnamul rice, with warm broth poured tableside just before eating. Mixing the rice into the broth allowed the tilefish's rich, fatty flavor to meld with the savory stock for incredible depth.

The perilla oil stone octopus Hanwoo noodles featured capellini pasta instead of traditional noodles. Stone octopus, sea urchin, Hanwoo beef, chamnamul greens, yuzu, and aged kimchi came together in perfect harmony. The octopus was Spanish pulpo-tender, the sea urchin deeply savory, and the sauce bright and summery. Using capellini instead of thin wheat noodles gave the dish a wonderfully springy texture.

The final course, grilled Hanwoo striploin, was cooked on an individual burner at the table. The marbling on the Korean beef was extraordinary. Each bite melted on the tongue, flooding my mouth with rich, beefy juices and nutty flavor. As the grand finale of this Gwanghwamun Korean food experience, it was nothing short of perfect.

Reservations at WOOARA Gwanghwamun are essential. I recommend booking through Naver Reservations or Catch Table well in advance. For anniversary visits, the restaurant offers complimentary lettered desserts, a Polaroid photo, and one glass of champagne per person—just mention it when you book. Since corkage is free, bringing your own wine is also a great option.

Each party is assigned a dedicated manager who attends to every detail from start to finish. Our manager explained each ingredient and cooking technique, paced the courses perfectly, and ensured we were completely comfortable throughout the meal.

WOOARA Gwanghwamun isn't simply a place to eat Korean beef—it's a restaurant where every dish is crafted with intention and artistry. I'm already planning to return and try the lunch course.
