For our anniversary, my boyfriend and I were searching for somewhere truly special in Seoul and discovered GOWOOGA Gangnam·Yeoksam, a Hanwoo omakase restaurant that's earned Blue Ribbon recognition. What drew me in wasn't just the accolades—it was the promise of premium Korean beef served in completely private rooms. After experiencing the full dinner course, from the quality of the beef to the attentive service, I can say it exceeded every expectation. Here's my detailed review.

GOWOOGA Gangnam·Yeoksam is located on B1 of the GFC Gangnam Finance Center, directly connected to Yeoksam Station Exit 2. If you're arriving by subway, it's less than a minute's walk from the exit. For those driving, the building offers underground parking with complimentary validation—two hours on weekdays and four hours on weekends, making it completely stress-free.

We had a 7 PM reservation and the Gangnam location made it incredibly convenient to arrive right after work. Clear signage guides you from the building entrance, so even first-time visitors won't get lost.

Walking in, the first thing that catches your eye is the expansive open kitchen visible from the entrance. The modern Korean interior with warm, subtle lighting creates an inviting atmosphere, and the staff greeted us warmly from the moment we arrived.

What makes GOWOOGA particularly appealing for group dinners or intimate celebrations is its layout: 23 fully private rooms, each equipped with its own table and individual grill. You can enjoy your meal without any concern about neighboring tables—perfect not just for date nights, but also for family gatherings and business dinners.

Our two-person room was surprisingly spacious, never feeling cramped, with impeccable table settings. Even from our private space, we could catch glimpses of the lively open kitchen, which added energy to the experience.

GOWOOGA offers both lunch and dinner courses. I selected the Dinner Signature B Course at 129,000 KRW per person, which felt very reasonable for a Hanwoo omakase of this caliber in Gangnam. The lunch course is more budget-friendly, making it an excellent option for business lunches or casual gatherings.

A standout perk: complimentary corkage. You're welcome to bring your own wine or champagne without any fees. Of course, the restaurant also offers an extensive beverage menu including non-alcoholic options, giving you plenty of choices.

Before the course began, the chef personally presented that evening's ingredients—caviar, tilefish, lobster, and premium 2++ grade Hanwoo. Seeing these pristine ingredients displayed before us built incredible anticipation.

For welcome drinks, we could choose between wine and champagne—we each picked one. They were perfectly light aperitifs to open our palates.

First Course - Sweet Corn Soup
A warm sweet corn soup arrived with a delicate drizzle of truffle oil. I initially worried the truffle might be overpowering, but it was subtle enough to enhance rather than mask the corn's natural sweetness. Smooth and savory, it gently warmed our palates for what was to come.

Gowoodam - Three-Color Appetizer Trio
Lobster tartlet, beef tartare, and bulgogi arrived beautifully plated together. (I have a shellfish allergy and received an extra bulgogi portion instead of lobster.) The beef tartare came with tartar sauce and was incredibly fresh and tender, while the bulgogi was served atop crispy seaweed crackers for delightful texture. Each bite-sized piece was meticulously prepared—the perfect way to awaken the appetite.

Striped Jack and Abalone
The striped jack had Korean watercress in the center and was served with a bright citrus sauce that cut through any richness beautifully. The fish itself was bouncy-fresh. The abalone was the most tender and least fishy I've ever tasted. Layered beneath were champagne sauce, sweet braised radish, seaweed flakes, and white kimchi—one bite with everything together created perfect harmony.

Hanwoo Tteokgalbi (Korean Beef Patty)
Served warm over charcoal, the patty had a tender texture infused with subtle smoky notes. Each bite released savory richness, while maintaining that characteristic chewy texture that makes tteokgalbi so satisfying.

Grilled Tilefish
The tilefish skin was crisped to a chip-like texture while the flesh remained moist and tender. It came with a sauce made from shrimp heads (served separately for me due to allergies). Grilled broccoli and Korean melon pickle underneath provided refreshing contrast, keeping the fish course from feeling heavy.

Perilla Oil Hanwoo Noodles
This noodle dish featured octopus, beef shank, and whole sesame seeds, but instead of regular somyeon noodles, they used capellini. The thin, delicate strands blended beautifully with the broth, while the perilla oil lent that distinctively nutty Korean flavor. Despite arriving mid-course, the portion was perfectly sized—satisfying without being overwhelming.

Finally, the star arrived: premium 2++ grade Hanwoo. An individual grill was set on our table, surrounded by a full spread of banchan (side dishes), rice, and miyeok-guk (seaweed soup). This was supposed to be a special date night dinner, and seeing such a generous Korean meal spread out before us felt incredibly satisfying.

The Hanwoo included both sirloin and tenderloin cuts with marbling that was truly works of art. Grilling it ourselves meant we could control the doneness exactly to our preference. The sizzle of fat rendering, the subtle charcoal aroma—everything heightened our anticipation. One bite and the beef melted on the tongue while bursting with juice. Even my boyfriend, who's quite particular about meat, kept saying "this is really incredible."

Vegetable skewers accompanied the beef—bell peppers, onions, mushrooms—which grilled up fresh and crisp. The banchan included mustard kimchi, julienned radish, and salted fish roe, while the seaweed soup was generously filled with beef. I easily finished a full bowl of rice. I'd worried an omakase might leave us hungry, but this traditional Korean spread ensured we left completely satisfied.

To conclude the meal, we received refreshing sorbet and cheesecake ice cream. They cleansed the palate beautifully, light and not overly sweet—the perfect ending to such a rich course.

Since I'd mentioned our anniversary when booking, the staff surprised us with a beautifully plated dessert with personalized lettering. They even took Polaroid photos for us to keep—such a thoughtful touch that made our celebration feel truly special.

GOWOOGA requires advance reservations through Naver or Catch Table. Weekend dinner slots fill up especially quickly, so I recommend booking well ahead. If you're celebrating something special, mention it in the reservation comments to receive the lettering dessert, champagne, and Polaroid photo service.

Operating hours are 11 AM to 10 PM daily, with a break from 3 PM to 5 PM.

GOWOOGA Gangnam·Yeoksam delivered on every front: accessibility, ambiance, and exceptional food quality. If you're searching for the best Korean BBQ Gangnam offers, this Hanwoo restaurant provides outstanding value with its comprehensive course menu and the comfort of completely private rooms.

Every dish throughout the course was thoughtfully prepared, and the quality of the main Hanwoo was truly outstanding. Portions were more generous than expected—even hungry diners will leave satisfied. The anniversary service was attentive without being intrusive, and the staff were genuinely welcoming throughout our meal.

As a Blue Ribbon-selected restaurant, both cuisine and service maintained impressively high standards. I'd absolutely return for our next special occasion. If you want an authentic premium Hanwoo omakase experience in Gangnam, I wholeheartedly recommend GOWOOGA Yeoksam.
