As the warmer season arrived and energy levels dipped, I found myself craving a quiet meal somewhere special. That weekend, I returned to DAEBOJUNG near City Hall station—my second visit to this exceptional Korean beef destination. My first experience had been so impressive that I knew this was the perfect spot for anniversaries and celebrations. Among Seoul's Hanwoo omakase restaurants, DAEBOJUNG stands out with its traditional Korean multi-course structure and completely private dining rooms, making it ideal for date nights and family gatherings alike.

DAEBOJUNG City Hall is conveniently located steps from City Hall station, making it easily accessible by public transportation. The short walk from the station meant no stress about arriving on time for our reservation. From the entrance, the upscale atmosphere was immediately apparent—this is clearly a place where you can confidently bring important guests. The building's clean exterior and elegant signage made it easy to find, even for first-time visitors exploring Korean restaurants in the City Hall area.

One of DAEBOJUNG's greatest strengths is that every seat is in a fully independent private room. After checking in with our reservation, we were shown to a beautifully set two-person table. Once the door closed, we had complete privacy—no worrying about neighboring tables or ambient noise, just total focus on the meal and conversation ahead. The room featured soft lighting and understated décor that balanced comfort with formality. The table was already arranged with pristine banchan (side dishes), each one clearly prepared with care and attention to detail.

Even the menu was designed with luxury in mind, reinforcing that this isn't just a Korean barbecue spot but a true Hanwoo omakase establishment. We ordered the "Dae Set" course, which includes not only premium Korean beef but also lobster—a generous and impressive composition.

Shortly after ordering, our server brought out the evening's ingredients for inspection—an unusual and welcome touch. We could see the fresh Hanwoo cuts and a live lobster up close, immediately building confidence in the quality of what we were about to enjoy. Among authentic Korean dining experiences near Deoksugung, few restaurants offer this level of transparency with their ingredients.

The first course opened with perilla seed samgyetang porridge and five varieties of seasonal sashimi. Arriving hungry for dinner, I appreciated how the silky porridge gently awakened the palate while stimulating the appetite. The nutty richness of perilla elevated this far beyond standard chicken porridge. The sashimi arrived on delicate small plates, each variety selected for peak seasonality. The natural sweetness of the fish was so pronounced that soy sauce felt unnecessary—the clean ocean flavors spoke for themselves.

The second course brought three ingenious one-bite creations. First, a sandwich-style composition of abalone and zucchini; second, crispy lobster tempura; and third, a palate-cleansing bite. The abalone came with its own liver sauce, the characteristic chewiness perfectly complemented by tender zucchini. The lobster tempura delivered a satisfying textural contrast—crisp coating giving way to bouncy, sweet lobster meat in a single delightful bite.

Next came the Hanwoo yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), plated like a work of art. Thinly sliced pear arranged in flower shapes added visual drama, while the tartare itself was supremely fresh and silky. The recommended eating method—placing the yukhoe atop crispy seaweed crackers—created an entirely new flavor profile with added crunch and nuttiness. This combination was so impressive I made a mental note to recreate it at home.

The true highlight arrived with lobster sashimi. Fresh lobster cut into perfect portions, topped with caviar, delivered incredible texture and delicate sweetness that filled the mouth. The ability to enjoy such high-quality lobster sashimi alongside a Hanwoo omakase course is what truly sets DAEBOJUNG apart from other Seoul Korean beef restaurants.

A mid-course Hanwoo tteokgalbi burger followed—savory Korean beef patty, fresh vegetables, and balanced sauce harmonizing with a soft bun to refresh the palate. Then came Hanwoo noodles: buckwheat noodles dressed with perilla, perilla oil, vinegar, and mustard in a bright, refreshing sauce. Generous ribbons of fresh perilla leaves on top amplified the aromatics, making this a perfect warm-weather dish.

Finally, the main event: grilled Hanwoo. Thick cuts of chuck flap, ribeye, and tenderloin were expertly grilled tableside by our server. With precise heat control, each cut was brought to its optimal doneness—the chuck flap melted on the tongue, while the ribeye and tenderloin offered rich juice and clean beef flavor. Grilled scallop and abalone served alongside created a wonderful surf-and-turf harmony. The quality here rivals dedicated steakhouses.

After the grilled Hanwoo, we could choose our meal finisher. We ordered both the lobster ramyeon (exclusive to the Dae Set) and mul-naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles). The lobster ramyeon featured rich broth packed with substantial lobster claw meat—each spoonful delivered deep, satisfying flavor. Despite being quite full, the clean, refreshing broth was so well-balanced I finished every drop.

The mul-naengmyeon offered the perfect palate cleanser after beef, with crisp, tangy broth and pleasantly chewy noodles. The characteristic refreshing quality of cold noodles made digestion feel effortless. Ending a Hanwoo omakase course with such a clean, light finish felt absolutely right.

Dessert arrived as sujeonggwa (cinnamon punch) topped with pear sorbet. Sweet, cold, and refreshing, it provided a bright conclusion to the entire experience. The course structure flowed like a traditional Korean banquet—each dish distinct and engaging, with no risk of monotony.

DAEBOJUNG offers table-order service for banchan refills, and the staff maintained friendly professionalism with appropriate discretion throughout. For special occasions, they provide lettering service and Polaroid photography—perfect for anniversaries or proposals. They also have a corkage-free policy, so bringing your own wine or champagne is welcomed without extra charges.

I especially recommend this restaurant for:

DAEBOJUNG City Hall isn't simply a place to eat meat—it's a complete omakase experience. Among Seoul's Hanwoo omakase restaurants, the traditional Korean course structure keeps the meal varied and engaging from start to finish. The fact that every table is in a fully private room means you can focus entirely on your meal and companions without any outside distraction.

The price point is certainly premium, but considering the quality of fresh Hanwoo and lobster, meticulous plating, and attentive service throughout, the value is absolutely there. This isn't for casual everyday dining—it's a destination for anniversaries, romantic dates, engagement dinners, family meetings, and business entertaining. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and saving it for another truly special occasion.
